Abstract:As the implementation of the strategy to improve the scientific literacy of all people deepens, the media function of urban science and technology museums, as an important bridge connecting science and the public, has received more and more attention. In June 2021, the State Council issued the Outline of the National Science Literacy Action Plan (2021-2035), proposing a long-term goal of achieving 25% of Chinese citizens with scientific literacy by 2035. This article focuses on the role of physical space in cultural communication. Physical space media has the affordance to activate the relationship between people, space and culture. Taking this as a starting point, the media affordance of public venues is observed in the specific practice of urban science and technology museums. The study found that urban science and technology museums have given people, space and scientific culture the possibility of interaction in terms of content presentation in cloud space, exhibition area arrangement in physical space, creation of localized popular science social platform, and intelligent driving of mobile scenes. Based on this, this article believes that urban science and technology museums can achieve new developments in scientific communication under the interaction of people and places in terms of intelligent space construction, regional cultural integration, and user co-creation.
